Luxury Hotel

With an outpost of almost every major luxury hotel in town, Mandarin Oriental rises above the gilded fray as the best of the best. Located in Tokyo's 400-year-old Nihonbashi business districts, the area manages to maintain its traditional charm with centuries-old boutiques with gifts and collectibles as well as latest designer boutiques. Charm gives way to 21st Century modernism once the elevator opens and the 38th floor Sky Lobby comes into sight. Two-story glass windows frame perfect Tokyo vistas with glittering lights and distant views across Tokyo Bay or the Imperial Palace.

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is full of quirky surprises from the colorful Michelin-starred Molecular Tapas Bar to more upscale Sense that's only two of nine restaurants and bars in the hotel that includes a tearoom, gourmet shop and 6am breakfast pantry. A full-service wedding chapel offers nuptials-on-the-go in Japanese while the in-house spa offers a vitality pool rumored to increase stamina in the nether-regions at least until the ice fountain in the steam room cools it all off. Sadly there's no pool, so pool addicts have to make due with access to the Konami Sports Club at an additional charge.
The Room

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo offers some of the largest rooms in Tokyo, clocking in at around 550-square feet of old world grandeur and super-modern details. Electronic curtains frame staggering views of Tokyo, that vanishes with the flick of a switch and electronic motor that unveils blackout blinds. Colors are expressed in gold, beige and browns with cool seating areas and tabletop LCD TVs that make the most of the views while occupying little surface space. Larger deluxe and corner rooms offer more spacious living areas with not-so-comfy sofas and business desks equipped with fax machine and WiFi. Bathrooms are lavish with heavy slabs of all white, veiny marble with wall-mounted TV and bubble bath views of the Tokyo skyline.
